FYI: I've once spoken to a guy who was escorted from U.S. and denied
entry ever since for coming to see his relatives while his original
request was for a business visa (B1). He had been given a B1/B2 visa
(business+tourist, combined), then the original meeting he had applied
for a visa for had been cancelled, and he decided it's a good idea to
use the visa to visit his second cousin somewhere in the middle of
States.

The border control decided he'd been lying at the consulate interview
about his intentions before, and denied him entry. Not a jail yet,
right, but still pretty much unpleasant.
