Most airlines will let you gate-check car seats for free.
There are some light and cheap ones from Cosco that are really good
for travel and then you can plug them into latch connectors in a taxi.

One thing we discovered to be aware of is that most of the Metro stations
lack elevators, or even if they have some elevators they don't go to all
lines.
The green line is particularly bad on this front.
This makes safely navigating the subway with a stroller or wheelchair
problematic to impossible.
