That would be true if we had recorded presentations.

I think you are talking about slides here.

Presentations happen when somebody speaks, with or without slides, in a somewhat planned, prestructured way.

Slides can be made to visually support presentations or they can be made to be consumed as a document.  They usually only support one of the two purposes well.  A presentation held with slides that were instead meant to be consumed as a document is often unbearable, which I think is about 80 % of the problem that is being perceived here.

It is amazing how the abuse of the word “presentation” for “slide deck” can shape confused, ultimately erroneous, thinking.
