Uh, no. They may have been traditions over time, but (at least for most 
people I know) they are no longer "honored".

If you see this kind of nonsense going on during a WG session, you 
should say so in the chat room, or if you don't feel comfortable doing 
that as a newcomer, you can drop a note to the WG chair(s), and if the 
chair is non-responsive, try the AD. We are really trying to rope in 
this kind of obnoxiousness in WG sessions and elsewhere, and it is the 
chairs' responsibility to do so. If you have particular instances of 
this kind of thing that happened last week, please let chairs or ADs 
know, even now; it's good that they are made aware. If all else fails, 
feel free come to the Ombudsteam. While the Ombudsteam is not supposed 
to be dealing with simple rude behavior in WG sessions, we are always 
willing to communicate things to the right people to make sure that the 
behavior is addressed, and we are required to handle reports completely 
anonymously.
