Hello!

This message is part of a series to bring you information about the IETF that will help you as a new participant.

During the IETF meeting week, there are many events that are structured specifically for new participants and events that are for everyone. We encourage you to participate in as many of these as you can. The list below is lengthy, however we want to make sure you get all the available information. Note: Sunday is a very busy day for new participant activities. For exact times and location, see the agenda: https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/119/agenda

-Hackathon
March 16-17, 2024 (Saturday - Sunday)
Onsite and Remote
At an IETF Hackathon, participants are encouraged to collaborate and develop code that showcases practical implementations of IETF standards. It brings developers and subject matter experts together to work on "projects". Hackathons are fairly informal; people come and go.

To help you judge if you want to attend, you can see the current list of projects at https://wiki.ietf.org/en/meeting/119/hackathon
Full hackathon details are at https://www.ietf.org/how/runningcode/hackathons/119-hackathon/.
Please note you must register for the Hackathon. It is free, however we need to plan for space and refreshments. A registration link can be found on the hackathon webpage.

-New Participants’ Overview
March 17, 2024 (Sunday)
Onsite and Remote
This session is a review of the New Participants’ Overview Presentation and provides new participants with information on how the IETF works, what to expect at a meeting and much more. This session will be available via Meetecho and will be linked from the agenda.

-Meetecho Test Session
March 17, 2024 (Sunday)
Onsite and Remote
This session will be a short introduction to Meetecho, the conferencing platform used for Working Group and other sessions during the IETF meeting. You will learn the basic functionality and be able to do live testing.

-Quick Connections
March 17, 2024 (Sunday)
Onsite
New Participants’ Quick Connections is a simple and effective way for
you to be introduced to a variety of experienced IETF attendees — often
working group chairs — who can help you get more involved in your
areas of interest. To RSVP, please go to your attendee dashboard by using your unique confirmation number (https://registration.ietf.org/119/attendee-dashboard/YOURREGISTRATION#/) A direct link to your dashboard is also available in your confirmation email.

-Welcome Reception
March 17, 2024 (Sunday)
Onsite
This is an informal reception. It’s a chance to meet other attendees, make some connections, and chat about the upcoming week. Food and beverages will be provided.

-Hot RFC Lightning Talks
March 17, 2024 (Sunday)
Onsite and Remote
This session is for lightning talks about new ideas, proposals, and research topics. This session will be available via Meetecho and will be linked from the agenda.

-New Participant Dinner
March 18, 2024 (Monday)
Onsite
This is an informal dinner for new participants to connect. There is a $15.00 entrance fee as this is not an IETF funded event. This dinner is organized by the IETF secretariat. See your registration dashboard to purchase tickets:
