[119-newparticipants] New Participant Information - 5 weeks until IETF 119

Hello!

This message is part of a series to bring you information about the IETF that will help you as a new participant.

The IETF uses many tools for discussions, documentation, and collaboration.  Below you will find some of the more widely used tools that you should familiarize yourself with.

Datatracker: https://datatracker.ietf.org
One of the most important tools you will use participating in the IETF is the Datatracker.  It stores all the information about Working Groups and the documents that are created, edited, and ultimately published as standards in the form of RFCs.

Meetecho: https://www.ietf.org/how/meetings/technology/meetecho-guide-participant/
Whether you are participating remotely or in-person, the Meetecho conferencing platform is used for Working Group and other sessions during the IETF meeting.
There are opportunities to test out Meetecho in advance of the IETF meeting to get used to the format, buttons, and features. We will be having 2 sessions in advance of IETF 119 for new participants to test out Meetecho and ask questions about the upcoming meeting. These session will take place on March 5th and 6th. There will also be a session on Sunday at IETF 119, immediately following the New Participant Overview Session, so you can test to make sure Meetecho is working and ask questions.

Zulip: https://zulip.ietf.org
The IETF uses Zulip as their chat server and you can login using your datatracker credentials.  Within the IETF’s Zulip server, there is a #new-participants channel where new participants can chat, ask questions and get reminders of events at the IETF meeting. Github: https://github.com/ietf
