Topic: AI Cluster Network: Co-design and Integration of Network, Computation and Memory
Speaker: David Lou, Chief Researcher, 2012 Network Technology Lab, Huawei

Logistics:
Day: Thursday, 25 July
Time: 11:45 - 12:45 PDT
Room: Georgia B
Lunch provided on first come first serve basis

Summary:

The demand for computing power infrastructure is soaring due to the wide application of LLMs, where AI cluster network emerges as a key technology for expanding computing power and maximizing efficiency. This speech gives Huawei’s view on large-scale, high-performance AI cluster networks. It will involve different optimization potentials on hierarchical topologies, routing and flow control systems, collective communication, load balancing, transmission protocols through network-computing co-design, aligning with the demands of AI communication characteristics. In summary, to achieve AI cluster network efficiency, network-storage-computing convergence is required to reduce data movement, minimize redundant computation, and enhance the overlapping of communication and computation overheads.

Speaker Biography:

David Lou is the chief researcher of the Network Technology Lab, Huawei. His research interests lie in data center networks and wide-area networks. Before joining Huawei, he was a senior researcher at Bell Lab, Alcatel-Lucent. He received the Ph.D. degree from Department of Information Technologies, University Ghent, Belgium.
