Welcome to IETF 124 Montreal hosted by IETF Global Hosts, Comcast and NBCUniversal. A big thank you to them and our sponsors for making our return to Montreal possible.

We currently have 1544 registered participants, 948 of whom are expected onsite and 596 participating via our high-quality remote experience tightly integrated with the onsite participation. Thank you to all of you that have registered for this meeting!

Immediately below are updates specifically for onsite participants. Below the onsite specific updates is a table which includes general information for all participants.

— Onsite information

Meeting network
Thank you to our IETF 124 Connectivity sponsors Telus, Metro Optic, and Beanfield for their contributions to what will be an excellent network in Montreal. In addition to the important updates below, More information is available on the IETF Meeting Network Information page <https://www.ietf.org/meeting/meeting-network-information/>.

Passphrase now required for guest room and public space Wi-Fi
The ietf-hotel network, which has historically been an open network, now requires a passphrase for access:
SSID: ietf-hotel
Password: ietfietf

The network is available in guest rooms and hotel common areas and provides both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity. It uses WPA2-PSK for authentication and supports dual-stack addressing. If you encounter issues connecting, please confirm that your device is configured for WPA2 Personal and that it is not attempting to connect to a cached open version of the SSID from a prior meeting.

Do not use personal hotspots at the IETF 124 meeting venue
Please refrain from using personal hotspots while in the IETF 124 venue as they disrupt the IETF meeting network. If you have issues with connectivity, please contact support@ietf.org <mailto:support@ietf.org> or stop by the NOC desk near IETF meeting registration.

Information desks
The RFC Production Center, the IETF Tools Team, and IANA will have desks near the IETF registration desk to provide information and answer questions about the work they do. These will generally be open from Monday-Friday of meeting week when meeting registration is open. For more details see the information desk webpage <https://www.ietf.org/meetings/information-desks>.

T-shirts
Meeting t-shirts will be provided to onsite registered participants in the requested size for those who registered prior to the preliminary agenda being published on 3 October. Onsite participants who registered after that date may receive a t-shirt based on availability but are not guaranteed a shirt in their size. You can purchase an IETF 124 meeting t-shirt on the IETF Store <https://store.ietf.org/shop/ietf-124-meeting-t-shirts/EVBZ57JWGT4D6LRKSUXBA6VV?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=category_order&sort_order=asc> and it can be delivered to locations around the world.

Fairmont the Queen Elizabeth Nacarat Bar
The Nacarat will be closed on Monday, 3 November, however the Roselys restaurant will be open all day and has a bar. There are also plenty of bars in the area around the Fairmont.

Board Game Night
Take a break from the week and join us for IETF 124 Board Game Night on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, from 19:15–23:00 in the Espace 21 Forum Room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont. It’s a relaxed evening of games, good company, and light snacks with non-alcoholic drinks.

— General information

Report issues to support@ietf.org
For the most prompt response, please report questions, concerns, or issues to: support@ietf.org <mailto:support@ietf.org>. While the 124attendees list is monitored by staff, issues reported to support@ietf.org <mailto:support@ietf.org> allow us to collect data and make improvements for future meetings, as well as respond immediately to requests and concerns.

Daylight Savings Time ends on 2 November in Montreal
The clocks will go back an hour on Sunday, 2 November as daylight savings time finishes and the meeting agenda times will follow the Montreal time change.

Later lunch hour and lunch options
We are continuing the daily schedule with a later lunch hour based on the positive feedback from IETF 123. The lunch break in the agenda will be from 13:00-14:30 local Montreal time, Monday through Friday. For those onsite in Montreal, the participant wiki <https://wiki.ietf.org/meeting/124> has a wide variety of dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Host Speaker Series
Join us on Thursday, 6 November from 13:15 to 14:15 for a talk by Eric Bertrand, Executive Director - WiFi Experience at Comcast in the Centre Ville room and in Meetecho for remote participants. The focus of this talk is Evolution of Internet Measurements for Applications. Lunch will be served for onsite participants on a first come first serve basis.

How do we really measure the Internet experience? This talk traces the shift from simple speed tests to intelligent, experience-based measurements—moving from bits per second to true quality of experience. Eric Bertrand shares key lessons from Comcast’s journey in redefining how we measure, interpret, and communicate connectivity to customers.

IETF Sponsors
IETF meetings would not be possible without the support of our sponsors <https://www.ietf.org/support-us/donors/>. Thank you to our Gold Diversity and Inclusion sponsors, Akamai and Huawei; our Gold Running Code sponsor, Ericsson; Bronze Diversity and Inclusion sponsors, Comcast and ICANN; Bronze Running Code sponsors, CNNIC and ICANN; Bronze Open Internet sponsors DENIC and Nominet, and Bronze Sustainability sponsor NTT.

We are also grateful for the support of our connectivity sponsors, Telus, Metro Optic, and Beanfield.

This 124all@ietf.org list is used for administrative announcements by the IETF Chair, the Secretariat, the NOC, and myself, the IETF Executive Director. The 124attendees@ietf.org <mailto:124attendees@ietf.org> list is for attendees to interact including sharing experiences and asking questions about local facilities.

On behalf of the whole team: welcome and we hope you have a productive meeting.
