Yeah, but in Philly I too could travel about armed . . . Not so in  
Mexico City.

Seriously: American companies who do business in Mexico City generally  
have contracts with security companies to provide escort/driver  
support for their employees. At the very least, one stays in a high- 
grade hotel and hire their referrals for driver/escort. One does NOT  
walk about or use public transit. Study up on "express kidnappings".

We might have had four hundred pockets picked in Paris, but that beats  
four hundred kidnappings any day. Except maybe if just the right  
people disappeared ;-).

Three weeks ago, my friend Camilo was beaten with rifle butts by  
Mexican Army soldiers after they kicked in the door to his brother's  
house in the middle of the night. Apparently somebody had given them  
the wrong address on a tip-off. This is a pretty standard occurrence.
