Ole,

I found the info on your site very helpful.  Just to make sure I 
understand: you need to arrive at your final destination station before 
midnight.  If I land at 16:20 (coming from the US), then the last Nomomi 
train you can catch to Hiroshima is the 19:50 train which gets you in at 
23:56 or the last non-Nozomi train at 18:33 train which gets you in at 
23:35.  If you take out the Narita Express travel time, then that leaves 
about 4 (Nozomi) or 3 (non-Nozomi) hours to get through 
customs/immigration.  Both seem do-able.

My one burning question: Do they serve beer on the train?
