What Marc said. The train ride is long; VIA rail has precious little
memory of how to run trains; and if the train breaks down you will be
badly delayed, because the train shares the rails with freight
traffic, which seems to get priority. So if you really like trains,
it's a fine way to travel, but the scenery ain't great. On the
upside, the train has wifi that usually works most of the time when I
take the train. And it beats driving the 401.

By the way, if you are spending time in Toronto itself and don't want
to haul yourself all the way out to the Pearson Airport (which was a
$60 cab ride for me when I last lived just east of downtown Toronto, a
few years ago), you can leave from Toronto Island. There's an
excellent little airline called Porter that will fly you to Quebec.
Last I looked, they were selling tickets for $129 one way.
flyporter.com. Air Canada has also started flying from there (again),
but I don't know whether they do Quebec yet.
