Yes, while it seems many airports have nice transit lounges, they are not
used due to all the increased security since 9/11.  For the folks that might
be traveling through DFW, here's a thread of discussion from folks that have
done so recently:

The international terminal at DFW is extremely nice and I would agree that
if you have to transfer in the US it's a far better choice than the likes of
JFK or Chicago.  However, I still recommend that folks avoid transferrring
in the US if at all possible since you must go through security again and
the rules used by the TSA agents at every airport are different. So, while
you may have no issue with stuff in your carry on when you go through
security at other locations, that is no guarantee that TSA won't give you
grief and confiscate things that they shouldn't (sometimes without your
knowing).  Lots of articles on this topic if you google.
