Since 4-6 interoperable implementations of multipart/alternative have
been identified on this list, I think it is certainly ready for draft status.
 
As for multipart/parallel, the only implementation I know of is metamail.
Were it to be "excised", the obvious place for the text would be in the IANA
media type registry.
