The iPhone 3gs got orphaned (iOS 6.1.6) a IETF or so back.  It was
good up to that stage.  I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars
replacing a perfectly functional phone.  Yes - I did respond to the
survey at the time.

Apple really needs to properly support versioned apps.  Just because
the new phones have more pixcels is not a good reason to make it
impossible to get app updates.
