Given that we now record meetings in audio and video, it seems that mostly-presentation meetings (including status updates) could be parallel-tracked to regular working group sessions. Today's IAB plenary was interesting, but the information content would have been roughly the same if watched later. (We can then see if Netflix carries the session, and consider an IAB plenary binge watching session.)

These sessions are useful for new attendees and they beat sitting in the terminal room, but allowing people a choice between early dinner and status updates (and catching the video version later, if needed) seems like a reasonable trade-off, given the constrained design space.

This obviously doesn't work for the IESG plenary.

We should be looking for ways to reduce the number of meeting hours, not
to increase them.

However, this would require far more stringent filtering of session
requests, and to date, there has been neither community demand, nor IETF
management resolve, to do this.
