t-shirt?  as in cotton?  terrible for warmth.  or poly or the like?  worse.

if you're serious about the function, get an alpaca sweater.  Alpaca is
several times warmer than wool and apparently it's hypoallergenic.[*]
So a very thin, light alpaca sweater will keep you plenty toasty.
