Subject: AppleTalk MIB+: call to re-affirm consensus

The current AppleTalk MIB is specified in RFC 1243. The IETF Apple-IP
Working Group produced a follow-on MIB document (AT-MIB+) that is
essentially a superset of RFC-1243. The WG achieved consensus on the
AT-MIB+ document that was published as an Internet Draft in April, 1993.
For various reasons, none of them technical, that document was not
advanced onto the Internet Standards track as an RFC. We believe that
there is no reason to delay this advancement any longer.

This note seeks to re-affirm the consensus on AT-MIB+ prior to forwarding
it to the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG) for consideration as a
proposed standard. In particular, anyone who has any strong concerns
about this document being published as a Proposed Standard should
speak up now. Comments can be sent to either or both of the
apple-ip@cayman.com or anf-disc@netcom.com mailing lists. Please
submit any comments by March 9.

A new version of the AT-MIB+ is available as an Internet Draft; the
file name is draft-ietf-appleip-mib2-02.txt. Among other places, it's
available in the ANF repository on ftp.netcom.com:pub/anf/related-docs.
This version has only minor editorial (non-technical) changes from the
version of April 1993.

The AT-MIB+ is the last item on the agenda of the Apple-IP WG. It is not
expected that this WG will need to meet again to complete this work.
Bob Morgan of Stanford University (taking over from Fidelia Kuang of
Apple Computer) will be acting as Chair of the WG for the short period
of time (we hope) before the AT-MIB+ becomes an RFC.

For the Apple-IP Working Group,

  Steve Waldbusser
  Fidelia Kuang
