We tried for that in Section 4. If we can make that clearer or more precise, we'd be happy to.

That was my first reaction as well.

> I would in general much prefer to see only one. I admit this may not be possible, or simple - maps, for instance, have no intrinsic ordering, enforcing an integer use the most compact representation is awkward, and so on. But having a canonical representation might well be missed later.

We could add that as an option for the protocols that care about it. The set of rules is small, so it's not a big deal.
