while I agree that as all the things in this world,
the WebSocket protocol could have been designed differently
and I understand that has been challenging and some time also
frustrating for people to follow the intensive
and long mail discussion,
I do think (but I am biased here) in HyBi we (at IETF) have done, and we
are still doing, an incredible effort to merge
different cultures or at least make them to work together in a
productive way

the last version 06 has improved a lot: (
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-hybi-thewebsocketprotocol-06 )
and there are already a lot of implementations of 06 draft (from both
sides browsers and web severs)
and more are under development and will be announced soon.
We will try to give an overview of the situation at the upcoming HyBi
session

of course there are still open issues that need to be discussed,
and need to reach consensus ... but are few and almost all of them are
to improve (simplify) something

cheers
/Sal
