Nope, your model is entirely alien to me; your assumptions therefore  
fail.

In the XMPP world, clients talk to each other and are mediated and  
aided by servers. This model is far closer to the model of hosts and  
routers, and there's much similarity - XMPP has a tendency toward  
pushing functionality out to the clients and avoiding involving the  
servers unless it's unavoidable.

Yet XMPP *also* has very fast innovation, which I attribute to its  
close-knit culture and approachable specifications. And beer.

So I think I agree with Ted Hardie, on another level - I think  
analysing why innovation can be quick and slow is interesting, but  
presenting a "final solution" for client/server interop seems a  
little hasty.
