Dear roll, manet, babel folks

I would like to invite you to check out the MSR BOF on tuesday 3-5 PM
slot in LIberty D.

What this is is to build a native IPv6 source routed multicast
solution - you can consider it to be potentially similar to BIER,
e.g.: bitstrings might be used, but the choice of how to represent the
multicast destinations or trees is wide open, and we hope that we can
build a solution that is more able to utilize what we know advanced
forwarders can do now, whereas BIER was built for what advanced
forwarders 10 years ago where assumed to be able to do.

MSR6 participants so far only come from large SP networks, so you may
think this is ultimately going to be multicast equivalent to RFC8754,
whereas Roll might rather want to have a multicast equivalent to
RFC6553, but:

This being a BOF, IMHO the scope is wide open, and i for once would
welcome interest of the non-large-SP IPv6 community (manet, roll,
babel?) to express interest and maybe even ability to contribute to
solutions that would then easily ne able to support also your
networks.

Btw: We did some initial investigation of bitstring multicast in ROLL,
which back then stalled due to priorities of contributors. Independent
of MSR6 i would be happy to present this on fridays meeting if there
is interest (Cc'ing the chairs, there seems to be some open slot..).
One of the issues we had in the work back then was actually trying to
figure out how to best fit BIER into ROLL, and with MSR6 we would have
a lot more freedom to define what we need (as long as it's IPv6 ;-)).

Cheers
    Toerless
