Why does MPP need to be an attribute vs. a semantic layered
on top of Paul's colour syntax?
If you really want to do something kinky that gives
nuclear weapons to folks who are multihomed and not necessarily
adept at predicting weirdo global side-effects (well, I'm not
either, but at least I know that), why not do this:
<AS that set this attribute, router# that set this attribute,
AS, preference value
...>
with semantics remarkably similar to Vadim's as-path metrics,
or along the lines of "prefer the AS path that has the largest
sum of preference values".
The latter might show:
<1, 1.1.1.1
3561, 100
1239, 50
174, -100>
BGP source routing hurrah!
Now, think about whether this should override AS path length
as the principal path selector in the absence of local-pref...
Sean.
P.S.: I would say yes, because of the utility to end sites and
the obvious ulterior motive I have of getting as few people
as possible to generate (as opposed to receive) NLRI using BGP.
P.P.S.: Yakov, are you ill yet? :)
