From: Photon - NOL Staff <photon@dazed.nol.net> Subject: Routing table requirements... While this isn't _Exactly_ on topic, it is relevant, and if anyone knows, people on this list should know.... On a typical Cisco (say, a 4500 model), what are the memory requirements to carry full routing via BGP from a provider? (And if you were to accept On a 4500, you'd want a 32mb 4500. "full routing", from more than one source, would the amount of required memory double/triple/etc...?). Also in the current Internet, about how much No, it only goes up by a few percent for each additional source. traffic would be involved after a a BGP reset to reload full routing? I'd say as a -really- rough guess, about 350k... could be as low as 200k, could be as high as 1mb, depending upon your path diversity. I was considering the possibility in one case I'm working on of letting multiple providers throw full routing at us, and then using weighted route filters to decide preferred routes for various groups of networks.... You mean local preference, don't use "weight" ... sure, it's an option.
