(I assume you mean "Merit."  As I recall, "Merrit" is a chain of gas
stations on the West Coast.)

It's a good thing you're not a historian, Paul.  Merit may deserve the
blame for many things, but inventing the Home AS notion is not one of
them.  Perhaps you were misspelling "RIPE" as "Merrit".
