I actually think there is value in having them separate - just as iCal
should never have contained tasks... They are fundamentally different
data types.  BUT, they need to have a connection.  The protocol and
schema should connect - clearly and purposefully.

I agree, and it begs the question if those two (CalDAV and CardDAV)
should be rolled into one standard.
