Thanx Christopher, It all looks interesting but it also raises a question: can you really build IETF standards on a foundation (dCBOR) which did not got WG adoption? Although nobody have confirmed this, I believe the rationale for Numeric Reduction is the elision use case. However, the 2.0 == 2 issue is only relevant for humans trying to match cryptographic material by manually typing in data, which only works at lab-scale. That dCBOR rejects non-deterministic input while CDE does not(?) is rather a "quirk" in CDE (which no *serious* implementer cares about). The heart of its design is hashed elision. This empowers Data Minimization, allowing any holder of data to redact data that should be private, while still maintaining validation & integrity. Signing, encryption, compression, secret shares, remote function calls, it's all here. But you only pay for what you use!
