Having left my day job, I now feel free to comment on this subject, which I didn't feel able to do last week.

I think it is at best a myth, and at worst willful ignorance, to believe that all IETF participants are acting only as individuals. As such, and because appearances can sometimes be as important as the underlying reality, I would prefer that Kevin voluntarily step down from this position. Of course if he chooses not to, I don't see that he can or should be forced to.
