That is a source of confusion.
Since most people who learn networking learn what a “domain” is (in the DNS sense), we are probably better off not re-using that term for something else.

Field, sector, sphere, branch, bailiwick, scope, range, area, …

We can continue to use the letter “d” to refer to that, if that eases concerns about existing implementations.
