Noel,

I was not challenging the _desire_ for longevity, merely the lack of
utility in citing it in a list of criteria to be used by the community
"at large".

I suspect that we will all generally recognize world peace when we
experience it.  But how does the desire for the  general goal of world 
peace (well, it _is_ that time of year, after all) get applied when
evaluating candidates for presidency, or even the specifics of
negotiating a Middle East settlement?

In other words, Noel, if we cannot objectify application of the
criterion, I believe that the criterion is inherently useless for
the task at hand, since we will then just invite "yes it is"/"no it
isn't" debates.
