IEEE p802.1CB is just now completing sponsor ballot, and we expect it to be published as IEEE Std 802.1CB-2017 before the end of the year. It specifies:

  1. Functions for identifying specific flows by source and destination MAC addresses and VLAN, L2 priority, DSCP, and IPv4/v6 5-tuple.
  2. A specification of a Layer-2 tag to supply a sequence number to an L2 frame.
  3. Call-outs of other valid methods of sequence number encapsulation at L2 (in ISO/IEC 62439-3).
  4. Interworking functions for merging various encapsulations.
  5. Specifications for multiple sequencing and elimination algorithms suitable for different use cases.

It is important to note that these functions are expressed in terms that are not limited to bridging, because this document is not concerned with how you make forwarding decisions. It would be trivial to add other encapsulations.

Note also that another document, IEEE Std 802.1Qci-2017 also being published. This document specifies, among other things, how to use 802.1CB to perform per-stream filtering, time-gating, and metering functions.

These documents can be found at:

http://www.ieee802.org/1/files/private/cb-drafts/ 802.1CB
http://www.ieee802.org/1/files/private/ci-drafts/ 802.1Qci

This URLs point you to an FTP directory with several folders, p0, p1, etc. The highest-numbered directory will contain the latest draft.

These URLs are password protected. See http://www.ieee802.org/1 for who you can contact to gain access.
