We have been running DHCP services for over a year.  My findings
suggest:
 
     -  there is a lack of backup/distribution/coordination of DHCP
information amongst DHCP server which significantly weakens the
structure.  A system with automatic distributuion like DNS is probably
in order.
 
     -  there are at least foru applications in our site which fail
using purely dynamic DHCP.  We staticly define all addresses (al la the
older bootp approach) to ensure stability.

It is absolutely esentially for large scale stable fanout of DHCP in a
generic or heterogeneous environment that the PTR records in the DNS be
updated with a control over which machine is assigned which IP address
if dynamic DHCP is to be truly successful.  So far this capability does
not exist in a standards based hetereogeneous environment.
