Uh, you do know that NT server has a DHCP server built in......

This forum is really not for questions like these...is it?

MHO,
I've been watching this group for quite some time and it seems that over time we are getting more questions like this. I would almost rather have this group moderated....or once someone subscribes they automatically get the FAQ (or its URL)....or only allow subscribed users to post to the group....

Now to offer something useful in the spirit of the Internet of the good old days....

Using the DHCP server offered by Windows NT Server, watch out for certain Apple printers (12/600 model in particular) that by default are set to "Automatic address selection" for TCP/IP....i.e. use DHCP. Apple's implementation of the DHCP client fails to acknowledge that the printer has accepted the IP address from the DHCP server so the server does not have an active lease for that device so the next device that requests an address gets the same one...

It seems that Microsoft and Apple have implemented the RFCs for DHCP differently....what is really strange is Open Transport works fine....

We are about to establish a DHCP server. I am going to buy a windows NT
server to run the DHCP server but I need some suggestions on which DHCP
program to use. Does anybody have advice on which one to use? I need
something that is easy to use and configure.
Thanks.
