Hi DIME participants and chairs,

RFC 9390 has finally been published! I would like to thank the authors and shepherd for helping get this over the line. I appreciate that it has been a long road to get this final RFC completed.

At this stage, I believe that all the work the DIME working group has energy for has now completed, and hence the DIME WG must either recharter (and aquire more energy) or close.

Since I see no individual drafts in the queue and minimal discussion on the DIME mailing list, my strong presumption is that this WG should close with any potential minor future work happening in OPSAWG. I believe that the dime email list can be maintained for DIME related discussion.

The alternative is to recharter, but I would only countenance that if this is still a sufficient community interest to work on future items, a strong indication from industry that this work is needed and would be deployed, and a commitment from participants as to what the WG should work on in the form of a concise charter.

I'll leave it a week for any comments on the next steps for DIME.

Regards,
Rob

In large network deployments, a single Diameter node can support over
a million concurrent Diameter sessions. In some use cases, Diameter
nodes need to apply the same operation to a large group of Diameter
sessions concurrently. The Diameter base protocol commands operate
on a single session so these use cases can result in many thousands
of command exchanges enforcing the same operation on each session in
the group. In order to reduce signaling, it is desirable to enable
bulk operations on all (or part of) the sessions managed by a
Diameter node using a single or a few command exchanges. This
document specifies the Diameter protocol extensions to achieve this
signaling optimization.

This document is a product of the Diameter Maintenance and Extensions Working Group of the IETF.

This is now a Proposed Standard.

STANDARDS TRACK: This document specifies an Internet Standards Track
protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions
for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the Official
Internet Protocol Standards (https://www.rfc-editor.org/standards) for the
standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution of this
memo is unlimited.
