Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the brief introduction about your work.

Uniformity in the operation between two DLT Network seems to be a good starting point.

However, I am wondering that in SAT model, the entire asset resides within a DLT or the associated claims relating to an asset resides in a DLT for
the purpose of verification? If former is the case, what benefit you see with the approach ?

Regards,
Yogesh

Hi Yogesh & Mike,

We are working towards an architecture underlying Secure Asset Transfer (SAT) protocol (also known as ODAP) which supports three (3) types or "modes" of operation based on Gateways:

(a) Transfer of a digital asset (unidirectional) via one gateway to another (i.e. each gateway fronting its own DLT network).

(b) Transfer of Data from a DLT network in a verifiable manner (i.e. verifiable by a third party). The key use-case for this is supply-chain logistics, where some data that resides in a private DLT network needs to be shared out of the network (i.e. copied out) to other DLT networks or other entities (e.g. government).

(c) Atomic swap of two assets (without transfer of assets across DLT networks). This is where Alice & Bob agree to swap their assets in two corresponding DLT networks in a concurrent & synchronized manner (e.g. to prevent cheating).

For Customs and Cross-Border Trade (and for trade-finance), the mode (b) is perhaps of immediate interest, because it can cover many "data sharing" use-cases related to shipments (e.g. digital Bill of Lading; digital Letters of Credit; etc).

For example, if a digital Bill of Lading is recorded in private DLT network, then it is difficult for financial institutions (who are not part of the DLT network) to use the physical asset as collateral in issuing letters of credit. Therefore, an authorized gateway in that private DLT network could be tasked to "copy out" (export) some authorized data fields from a record in the ledger.

Cross-Border Trade & Trade Finance is core use-cases for the group, and as such speaking for the group we would be very happy collaborate.

Hi Yogesh,

Thank you for recording the meeting/presentation, it was very insightful.

Vincent mentioned the importance of having one methodology for interoperability between supply chains which may be using a DLT of some sort. The Dept of Customs appears to be working on their own interop solution. The blockchain interop group is specifically working on the development of a protocol, called ODAP, to provide asset transfer interoperability which SCITT may be able to leverage. They too are seeking to form an ietf working group and have had at least one bof. It might be helpful to have Thomas provide SCITT with an overview of the blockchain interop work and vice versa.
