I am somewhat skeptical that a canonical Pointy Haired Boss (or other non-technical individual) would have the slightest clue what "gnu", "zkey", or any of the others meant or implied. On the other hand, my grandparents could easily grasp the concept behind ".local" even if they had no exposure the mDNS or Apple's Rendezvous/Bonjour (or the philosophy behind it).
