"unilateral" isn't a criticism.   It's what happened.   There's a reason that it happened.   I don't think we should minimize that.   I disagree with the idea that was advanced by some folks in dnsop during the .onion discussion that the unilateral use of the name was bad.   It was common practice at the time.
