(I believe Karen is in all-day meetings this week, so I’m providing some info below, but she may have additional thoughts and pointers).

Hi Brian,

The navigation at www.ietf.org is informed by input from the key audiences defined in the SOW The aim is to provide them the information they are seeking where they would natural look. For example, someone new to the IETF will see “Participate in the IETF” under “About”, and from there find “Getting Started in the IETF”. The Tao is listed under “Resources” (https://www.ietf.org/about/participate/get-started/resources/) and as a related link under “Attending meetings”.

In short, the idea is to embed the work of the EMO directorate where it makes most sense for the audiences it (each individual piece of work) is aimed at. An example not involving newcomers, is the WG leadership training linked from here (https://www.ietf.org/chairs/), produced by the EMO Dir (née EDUteam). There’s still work to be done, of course. For example, Area overview tutorials might be linked from the Areas page (https://www.ietf.org/topics/areas/). I’m hoping we’ll be able to do further testing with the target audiences to suggest other refinements.

On Directorates, the general idea is to point to Datatracker as the authoritative source of information. It looks like the EMO Dir page on datatracker needs some attention. I think the members can and should be listed (like here for IOT Dir https://datatracker.ietf.org/group/iotdir/about/) and the wiki page should be updated. The information does seem to be here:

https://trac.ietf.org/trac/edu/

but I would look to Karen and Mirjam to advise on the best way forward on this item.

I hope that helps,

-Greg
