IP over FDDI is now a Draft Internet Standard.  The current document
is RFC 1188.
 
I assume that the "apple problem" is the fact that 802.3 framing with
SNAP/0-0-0 encapsulation is used (rather than Ethernet)?  This is not
a problem with IP over FDDI per se, but rather the algorithm used
by translating bridges.  My hunch is that things are too entrenched
to change the specs, and that Apple should break down and accept
Ethernet-framed packets.
