Re: [Gendispatch] Updated draft: Policy experts are IETF stakeholders

Hi Eliot and all,

Thanks for this steer, we agree this could be a fruitful way forward, and
we’d welcome thoughts from others as well, on where to dispatch this.

Ahead of the session at IETF 117, we have updated the draft once more [0],
trying to make more explicit a few points which discussions on the mailing
list have been circling around. Primarily that this work is not aiming at
creating any form of special treatment, and that this work is not just
about engagement of governments but also individuals with wider
policy-relevant expertise.

As Eliot says, we are keen to think about the engagement model and how
different components work together, and we hope we can do this with the
community in some fashion.

In this sense, the challenge is not to change the status quo about who is
formally able to participate at the IETF, but to make the reality of
engagement match more closely to the ideal of open and welcoming to
individuals with a wide range of expertise and experience. I look forward
to discussing more at IETF 117
