Hi

If you are on this list you are interested in ham/amateur radio and you are an SDO professional.

Amateur radio has a lot of valuable spectrum and this under threat to an extent that we have not seen in the past.

I was approached today by Ole Garpestad LA2RR who is a Vice President of the IARU and asked if I knew how the IARU could find more people who would volunteer to help IARU defend our spectrum by working with a number of SDOs.

One of the key skills that is required is how to operate in an SDO environment. Some of you will know how SDOs outside the IETF work, but the skills that you have developed in IETF will be transferable to the other SDOs that we need to participate in. We think that we can split the job up in a number of ways such that some people can help without attending meetings, although we do need some to be there in person. IARU has some travel budget so we are not asking you to pay to travel out of your own pocket, but do need you to volunteer your time.

If you are interested in helping, then please reach out to Ole, who I cave copied, and discuss his needs, the process that he has in mind, and see if you are to contribute to this team effort to protect amateur radio spectrum by representing the interests of amateur radio in one of a number of SDOs.

Thanks and Best 73

Stewart/G3YSX (current RSGB President and long term IETF participant)
