If people don't know (and in the future please provide references to
algorithms whenever possible), good page about RIPEMD160 is:

Regarding being faster then SHA256, that maybe true but RIPEMD itself
is not as fast as SHA functions and there has not been enough study of
RIPEMD to make certain it does not have same potential collision problems.
