I agree that there are strong opinions for and against stream compression.

Typically such division should mean that such a feature should not be
put into the draft.  But unfortunately, as has happened all to often
with this process, the feature was put in without much discussion and
we now have to argue to have it removed.  So the status quo is the
inclusion of a non consensus feature.

I really do not see how we can go forward with an optional feature
that does not have consensus support, that contradicts the rest of the
specification on what an extension is able to do and has some
unresolved security questions about it.
