I support the statement "It seems to me that putting the intellectual
property, and the domain name, in neutral hands still makes sense".

Many people have stated that the IANA trademark and iana.org domain name
are not worth fighting over. I think this is an attempt to prime the
community so that there is no protracted battle over the resources. But I
am sure any IP lawyer will tell you the importance of owning the trademarks
even if it is for confidences purposes in avoiding any lawsuits that can
occur over the use of trademarks without appropriate licensing.

Today I asked to Greg Shetan, Chair Intellectual Property Community at
ICANN on what he thought on the request to transfer the Intellectual
Propert out of ICANN. His view was we should look at trademark law and take
the direction that works well for all parties. His Personal view was the
IANA Function Operator should hold these trademarks. I hope I have not
misquoted him.

Sincerely,

ICANN runs them all? Really? I guess that will be a surprise to the
IEEE-SA (MAC addresses), and ITU (E164 addresses), to name just two.
