All,

I really like the NRS work and would like to add a reference to name-based routing with a name resolution approach, namely the so-called 'enhanced service-based architecture' (eSBA) work for 5G control planes (I can send the correct TS number around once I pulled them from another source). Already in Release 15, which is the basis of 5G for current deployments, the option for 'name-based routing' is being explicitly allowed, i.e., the so-called Name Resolution Function (NRF) will return a name to send a request to, not an IP locator. The NRF, however, does the higher-level name resolution akin to MobilityFirst, i.e., it resolves a service profile (e.g., 'use AMF with subscriber X in location Y') to a concrete name (e.g., 'dirk.UK.AMF.3gpp.org').

It might be worthwhile to include some reference to this ongoing 3GPP work - happy to provide the concrete detail in a separate email.

Best,

Dirk
