It comes back to the same point. If we have no consensus on what the
fields should be (and it is the first field that is an ASN which allows
the others to be interpreted which is the field that concerns me) and
the fields are part of a transitive attribute that goes who knows where
in the Internet, then how can they be safely used to influence routing?
Specify that and the problem is solved.

MUST be an ASN works for me, or, paradoxically, MAY be an ASN (since
then it should be obvious the fields cannot be relied on); the idea of
stripping them so that they are not transitive has been floated (or make
the attribute non-transitive) and I think rejected.

It all seems unattractive but then so does routing based on fields that
you do not know how to interpret. When the first field is 2914, it may
be ASN 2914 but it may be someone else using this big new community for
something completely different and claiming that it is only a SHOULD in
the RFC so that gives them licence to put something other than an ASN in
there - well, something along those lines.

To state the obvious, this progresses to the next stage when there is
rough consensus to progress it:-)
