A new Request for Comments is now available in online RFC libraries. RFC 9755 Title: IMAP Support for UTF-8 Author: P. Resnick, J. Yao, A. Gulbrandsen Status: Standards Track Stream: IETF Date: March 2025 Mailbox: resnick@episteme.net, yaojk@cnnic.cn, arnt@gulbrandsen.priv.no Pages: 11 Obsoletes: RFC 6855 I-D Tag: draft-ietf-extra-6855bis-04.txt URL: https://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc9755 DOI: 10.17487/RFC9755 This specification extends the Internet Message Access Protocol, specifically IMAP4rev1 (RFC 3501), to support UTF-8 encoded international characters in user names, mail addresses, and message headers. This specification replaces RFC 6855. This specification does not extend IMAP4rev2 (RFC 9051), since that protocol includes everything in this extension. This document is a product of the Email mailstore and eXtensions To Revise or Amend Working Group of the IETF. This is now a Proposed Standard. STANDARDS TRACK: This document specifies an Internet Standards Track protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements. Please refer to the current edition of the Official Internet Protocol Standards (https://www.rfc-editor.org/standards) for the standardization state and status of this protocol. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. This announcement is sent to the IETF-Announce and rfc-dist lists.
