The IESG has approved the following document: - 'Certificate Management over CMS (CMC)' (draft-ietf-lamps-rfc5272bis-10.txt) as Proposed Standard This document is the product of the Limited Additional Mechanisms for PKIX and SMIME Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Paul Wouters and Deb Cooley. A URL of this Internet-Draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-lamps-rfc5272bis/ Technical Summary This document defines the base syntax for CMC, a Certificate Management protocol using the Cryptographic Message Syntax (CMS). This protocol addresses two immediate needs within the Internet Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) community: 1. The need for an interface to public key certification products and services based on CMS and PKCS #10 (Public Key Cryptography Standard), and 2. The need for a PKI enrollment protocol for encryption-only keys due to algorithm or hardware design. Working Group Summary There is support in the LAMPS working group. There was very little controversy about any of the updates to CMC. Document Quality ASN.1 is used. Once a placeholder values are inserted for the module identifiers that will be assigned by IANA, the ASN.1 modules in Appendix A compile without error. There are four normative downward references; however all four are already in the downref registry. The four Informational RFCs are: RFC 2986, RFC 5911, RFC 5912, and RFC 6268. Personnel The Document Shepherd for this document is Russ Housley. The Responsible Area Director is Deb Cooley.
