The IESG has received a request from the Concise Binary Object Representation
Maintenance and Extensions WG (cbor) to consider the following document: -
'Concise Binary Object Representation (CBOR) Tags for Time, Duration,
   and Period'
  <draft-ietf-cbor-time-tag-12.txt> as Proposed Standard

Version -12 of this draft was processed as usual by the working group and by the IESG.

While it was in the RFC Editor queue, an issue was identified [1]. The proposal fix was discussed in the Working Group [2], and did not generate any objection, however the change was deemed too substantial in AUTH48 to be considered purely editorial.

The proposed change, therefore, is visible here:

https://www.rfc-editor.org/authors/rfc9581-lastcall-diff.html

https://www.rfc-editor.org/authors/rfc9581-lastcall-rfcdiff.html

Please note that the change to evaluate in Appendix A is only the following, the rest is already approved (see the thread on AUTH48 for details [3]):

OLD:

   $$ETIME-ELECTIVE //= (-1 => $ETIME-TIMESCALE)

NEW:

   $$ETIME-ELECTIVE //= (-1 => $ETIME-TIMESCALE)

   $$ETIME-ELECTIVE //= (-13 => $ETIME-TIMESCALE)

   $$ETIME-CRITICAL //= (13 => $ETIME-TIMESCALE)

This is, therefore, an IETF Last Call for a review of the proposed change only. The IESG has placed a hold on the document in the RFC Editor queue until this Last Call and any feedback has been resolved.

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final
comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
last-call@ietf.org mailing lists by 2024-06-26. Exceptionally, comments may
be sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the beginning
of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

   The Concise Binary Object Representation (CBOR, RFC 8949) is a data
   format whose design goals include the possibility of extremely small
   code size, fairly small message size, and extensibility without the
   need for version negotiation.

   In CBOR, one point of extensibility is the definition of CBOR tags.
   RFC 8949 defines two tags for time: CBOR tag 0 (RFC3339 time as a
   string) and tag 1 (POSIX time as int or float). Since then,
   additional requirements have become known. The present document
   defines a CBOR tag for time that allows a more elaborate
   representation of time, as well as related CBOR tags for duration and
   time period. This document is intended as the reference document for
   the IANA registration of the CBOR tags defined.

   // (This cref will be removed by the RFC editor:) The present
   // revision (–12) addresses the IESG reviews.
