The IESG has received a request from the MAC Address Device Identification for Network and Application Services WG (madinas) to consider the following document: - 'Randomized and Changing MAC Address State of Affairs' <draft-ietf-madinas-mac-address-randomization-13.txt> as Informational RFC The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the last-call@ietf.org mailing lists by 2024-07-01. Exceptionally, comments may be sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the beginning of the Subject line to allow automated sorting. Abstract Internet users are becoming more aware that their activity over the Internet leaves a vast digital footprint, that communications might not always be properly secured, and that their location and actions can be tracked. One of the main factors that eases tracking Internet users is the wide use of long-lasting, and sometimes persistent, identifiers at various protocol layers. This document focuses on MAC addresses. There have been several initiatives within the IETF and the IEEE 802 standards committees to overcome some of these privacy issues. This document provides an overview of these activities to help coordinating standardization activities in these bodies. The file can be obtained via https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-madinas-mac-address-randomization/ No IPR declarations have been submitted directly on this I-D.
