Hanyu Pinyin is what is referred to by “pinyin”. I think that this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongyong_Pinyin#Comparison_between_Hanyu_Pinyin_and_Tongyong_Pinyin shows enough differences to warrant distinguishing the two.
